What information do I need to provide for a consultation?
We would really appreciate it if you could provide us with your address, along with an overall vision for what you’re looking for in your outdoor space. Just a heads-up, we'll be sending you a discovery questionnaire before your consultation to get the ball rolling!
Do I need to be a homeowner or have a yard to receive your services?
Absolutely not! Restoring Roots will gladly provide design services to assist in small spaces like apartment balconies, community gardens, patios, etc. For these spaces, our designs will be renter friendly. We will be mindful and creative in designing the usable space while still providing beneficial habitat to local pollinators.
We will also tackle commercial projects if requested. Please reach out to us if you’re interested. Prices for these projects will likely vary from those listed on the services page due to the total square footage for the project.
What kind of plants are used in your designs?
At Restoring Roots, we pride ourselves in designing with at least a 60/40 ratio of native to non-native plants. Our designs are made with the intention of being low-maintenance and good for the local ecosystem. One of the significant ways this is accomplished is by planting primarily native plants.
Why Restoring Roots?
We pour our hearts into crafting spaces that are both stunning and easy to care for, empowering individuals to actively contribute to their surrounding ecosystem. Not just a spot for unwinding and cultivating ingredients, our designs foster connections within the community and offer a sanctuary for various forms of wildlife to thrive alongside humans.
Through seeking out native plants, we are also providing habitat for native wildlife and pollinators. The vast majority of our design plans will meet the certification requirements to become a certified wildlife habitat through the national wildlife federation. Our designs will also qualify to be a part of the Homegrown National Park Movement.
When you talk about attracting wildlife and growing native plants does that mean that my yard will look wild and unkempt?
No! Our designs are intended to be calming and create inviting outdoor spaces. We generally will utilize a lot of herbaceous perennials, flowers, fruiting shrubs, etc. ensuring that you will have a beautiful landscape that will come back year after year. However, our landscape designs are intended to be lower in maintenance NOT no maintenance, so you will need to spend some time each year tending to your plants otherwise nature will take it’s course and the design will look more wild and unkempt as time goes on.
How long does it take for the designs to truly come to life?
Our designs start to come to life after about 3-6 months of planting but you will see a more significant difference at the 1 year mark. The most upfront work will obviously be on the front end of planting and getting the roots established. So the first couple years will require the most amount of work. Around year 3 is when you’ll really be able to cut back on the maintenance and the plants will be more self sufficient and take care of you more than you are for them.
